Five families were living in the 50-year-old building
Thane:
Eleven people died after a 50-year-old building collapsed in Thane late on Monday night. Many others are feared trapped under the debris.
Five families were living in the three-storey building Krishna Niwas which was served notice by the municipal corporation earlier this year to vacate.
Thane Collector Ashwini Joshi and Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde rushed to the site to supervise relief operations.
The fire brigade, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and other agencies are engaged in clearing the debris and rescuing the trapped and injured.
This is the second major crash in the district in the past one week. On July 29, Matruchhaya Building collapsed, killing nine occupants and injuring five.
