Bihar Law-maker's Son and Nephew Thrashed Allegedly Over Parking Dispute in South Delhi

Rishabh, the nephew of Jehanabad MP Arun Kumar

New Delhi:

As angry protesters blocked roads in Delhi over the killing of a 38-year-old man in a case of alleged road rage, reports came in from another part of the capital of two young men being allegedly beaten up by their neighbour after an argument over parking space.

One of them, Rituraj, the son of Arun Kumar, a Member of Parliament from Bihar, has a dislocated shoulder. His cousin Rishabh too has injuries. Both of them, in their early twenties, are in hospital.

"They were brutally attacked," said Mr Kumar, who has also alleged that, "When my son went to report to the police, his statement was not taken. Action was seen only we got in touch with the Police Commissioner." Three men have been arrested.

In his police complaint Rishabh has alleged that the altercation happened when his cousin and he returned from his father's official residence in South Avenue to their home in South Extension part II in south Delhi on Sunday evening.

"When they reached home, they found several two-wheelers parked outside their gate, which belonged to people visiting their neighbours," a police officer said. When they asked for the vehicles to be removed, the neighbour Manohar Lal and his friends allegedly beat them up.

Rituraj has alleged that the men were drunk and misbehaved with the women of his family when they attempted to intervene. "They were drunk and they were out of control. Initially there were 4 or 5 of them but later 6-7 more people joined them," he alleged.

Manoharlal and two of his friends have been arrested and a case of assault and intimidation has been registered.

About 13 km away, in central Delhi's Turkman Gate area, the police have stepped up security after massive protests over the death of Shahnawaz, who was beaten to death in front of his young sons late on Sunday night by five men whose car his motorcycle had grazed.

Shahnawaz, who was headed home from a family wedding, was beaten with iron rods for 15 minutes just 100 metres away from a police station, his sons said, but got no help.
