The bike rally was organised by the Indian Cancer Society
New Delhi:
In a bid to spread awareness about the cancer disease, over 65 bikers came together in the national capital today for a 20-kilometre rally.
The bike rally, organised by Indian Cancer Society, began this morning from Delhi's Vasant Kunj area and ended at the cancer detection centre at Babur road.
Jyotsna Govil, president of the Indian cancer society, told NDTV that the rally happened because the bikers came in support of the cause and took interest in the event. Many could not participate due to lack of parking space outside detection centre.
Sidharth Ghosh, a biker and also a cancer survivor, said, "The stigma associated with cancer must come to a halt, it's not a stigma, neither it's a dead end, I am a living example."
Close to 1,300 people succumb to cancer every day and according to National Cancer Registry Programme of the India Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the estimated mortality rate due to cancer saw an increase of six per cent approximately between 2012 and 2014.
