New Delhi:
A 29-year-old Congolese national was allegedly beaten to death by a group of men in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, police said today.
One accused has been arrested and two others have been identified. "A case of murder has been registered," senior police officer Nupur Prasad said.
Masonda Ketada Olivier was on his way back home last night around 11:45 pm when he reportedly got into a fight with three men at Kishangadh locality.
According to the police, the argument broke out over hiring an auto-rickshaw.
Following the argument, the men attacked Mr Olivier, and as he tried to escape, they chased him for around 20 metres and beat him up with stones and bricks.
It was another group of locals who rescued Mr Olivier and called up police. He was rushed to a private hospital where he later died.
The case is being probed from all angles including robbery and a possible racist attack, police said.
The Embassy of Congo has been informed about the incident.
Mr Olivier taught foreign languages at a private institute here and lived in Delhi's South Extension area.
A few locals have been detained for questioning.
