Delhi government sources say they are considering filing charges against Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi over alleged impropriety involving a cooperative society flat in West Delhi's Rohini.
Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi today said he would "take the dishonest to their graves," a response to corruption allegations by the Delhi government. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused him of making a death threat.
AAP government sources say they have received a complaint that a flat owner in a west Delhi cooperative society was thrown out in 1990 to accommodate Mr Bassi.
The complaint also alleges that while taking another property as a member of a civil services welfare society, Mr Bassi did not disclose that he already owned another flat. A few years later in 1998, he allegedly sold off the apartment to his younger brother for Rs 11 lakh, which is less than the market rate, to save on stamp duty.
An angry Mr Bassi said: "I have not even taken a bribe of 25 paise. I have not received any complaint. The corrupt are calling me corrupt. I will take the dishonest to their graves."
AAP leader Ashutosh hit back, saying: "Even if there are charges, does it merit such language? The police commissioner issued an open threat to kill."
The president of the housing society named in the complaint Dr RK Chaurasia said that the were contacted by authorities last month but they haven't received details yet.
The corruption allegation is the latest twist in the running feud between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's AAP and the Delhi Police, which is controlled by the Centre. Ties have further soured over the arrest of several AAP leaders.
Mr Kejriwal accuses the police of failing to curb crimes in Delhi and not cooperating with his government, and has demanded that his government be given control of the city's police force.
