Lucknow / Delhi:
At least 17 properties owned by liquor baron and multiplex owner Gurdeep Singh Chadha were raided by income tax officials today.
The raids were carried out across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi after the I-T department got inputs regarding alleged tax evasion by firms associated with Mr Chadha, sources said.
The searches, sources add, were related to the alleged mis-pricing of huge liquor consignments in the state and other places.
Gurdeep Singh Chadha, better known as Ponty Chadha, is a major film distributor for North India and owns several multiplexes in the national capital region.
Some of his properties being raided today include his multiplexes in Noida, a farmhouse in Chhattarpur and a bottling plant in Moradabad.
Ponty Chadha is the largest liquor baron in the state and is said to be close to Chief Minister Mayawati. (With PTI inputs)
