Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes a tour of Shauryanjali, a commemorative exhibition for the Golden Jubilee of 1965 war, in New Delhi.
New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not spend his 65th birthday today in home state Gujarat, as he has done in previous years. The PM is in Delhi and
visited a 1965 war exhibition.
Last year, he had made his first visit to Gujarat after taking office, on his birthday. He had sought blessings from his mother Hirabai, 96, and in the evening, had hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping in Gandhinagar.
The action today is on Twitter, which is celebrating the Prime Minister's birthday with multi-coloured balloons floating across his page. PM Modi is among the most followed global leaders on the social networking site and the hashtag #HappyBdayPM trended this morning.
Among those who wished the PM on Twitter was Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
And Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.
Many BJP leaders also tweeted Happy Birthday wishes. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa sent a message, "I pray that the Almighty may grant you many more years of good health and strength to serve our nation."
The PM's birthday this year coincides with Ganesh Chaturthi, and in many places his supporters are celebrating the two together. In Gujarat's Surat, a cake made of modak, Lord Ganesh's favourite sweet, will be cut to wish the PM.
In his only tweet this morning, the PM wished the nation on Ganesh Chaturthi.
Last night, he had thanked ace shuttler Saina Nehwal for her birthday gift, also tweeting a photo with the champ. Saina, who met the Prime Minister on Wednesday, has presented him with the badminton racquet she used to win a silver medal at the Badminton World Championships, the first Indian to do so.
In West Bengal's Siliguri, children at a school dressed up like the Prime Minister, wore Modi masks and cut a cake.
The Prime Minister will
visit his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh tomorrow.
