Power Minister Piyush Goyal had just finished launching a booklet on his ministry's work on Tuesday - a part of the ruling BJP's big bang run-up to its second anniversary party - when the lights went off.
Mr Goyal was in the middle of talking about his ministry's achievements, titled in the booklet as "Ujjwal Bharat two years" when he was presented with this flash of reality.
Taking it in his stride, the minister quipped, "My wife tells me that there should be a power cut at every program so I know I have miles to go before I sleep. Looks like they have taken this quite seriously."
The minister continued with his presentation, taking questions. The electricity returned just as he was explaining the ministry's plans to have a power supply system for Delhi, similar to that of Mumbai that islands itself off to ensure continuous power supply to the financial capital even though other areas may face power outages.
