Vintage Shell Found In Delhi, Deactivated

New Delhi: An old and unexploded artillery shell was found in North Delhi and then defused in April by India's premier bomb disposal experts of the National Security Guard (NSG), the agency's chief RC Tayal has revealed.

The ammunition (used by field guns) was found during construction work at an office of the Defence Research and Development Organisation or DRDO, which creates military technology.   

In an official statement, the NSG said "during some excavation work at DRDO's Metcalfe House [North Delhi], an unexploded ordinance was found in the form of a 120 mm artillery shell. Two empty shells [casings of already fired artillery shells] were also found alongside."

The Delhi Police, who were called into investigate, requested the National Security Guard's bomb experts for help. They demolished the live shell at a facility in Manesar on the outskirts of Delhi.

The vintage of the live shell which was retrieved is not known.
