Rakummar Rao after and before his transformation
New Delhi:
Actor Rajkummar Rao had featured on several headlines after he played a 324-year-old man in this year's incarnation drama Raabta and he might soon have a deja vu. The 34-year-old actor has undergone yet another physical transformation - which is like a reversal of the one usually opted for by fitness freaks - Rajkummar went from fit-to-fat. Yes, you read that correct. The Bareilly Ki Barfi actor has put on 11 kilos to play the role of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in Bose- Dead/Alive to be presented by ALTBalaji. Rajkummar confessed to being on a diet he can't really complain about and before we move on to that, here's how he looks now.
"My diet plan was just to eat as much from sweets to pizzas to biryanis to parathas with lot of cheese and ghee. As actors, we are always on a constant diet but this was my chance to just let go and enjoy all the scrumptious food as much. Lot of sweets, Pizzas, Biryanis and Parathas but mainly sweets," said the Shahid actor, who plays the protagonist in the web series.
Rajkummar has also gone bald to completely to get into the skin of the character. "I wanted to feel like a different person altogether. That's why I shaved my head half and gained all this weight and that's exactly what happened, when I looked at myself after 3-4 weeks of hogging. I couldn't see Raj in the mirror and I started my preparation from there," he said.
Hansal Mehta, who is the creative producer the web series Bose-Dead/Alive, said being in Kolkata for the shoot of the series helped Rajkummar in going out of shape. "People go on a diet to lose weight, but Rajkummar went on a diet to increase weight. The fact we were in Kolkata helped as he ate sandhesh, rasgullas, and all the possible sweets along with cheese laden pizza's, butter dripping aloo parathas," he said.
Mr Mehta said Rajkummar's "unhealthy" but scrumptious diet often urged him to go out of his own diet. "Looking at him, even I would get tempted to eat the same. It was strange as Rajkummar has always been a person who would eat healthy, quinoa, protein etc was always a part of his diet. It was a very unhealthy diet but he did it all to get into the skin of the character," he added.
Directed by Bose-Dead/Alive also stars Pulkit, Patralekhaa Paul, Edward Sonnenblick, Naveen Kasturia, Sanjay Gurbaxani and Surendra Rajan and will premiere soon.
