Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men. Reportedly, close to 1.1 million men were diagnosed with the disease in the year 2012. The incident of prostate cancer is greater in western, developed countries as compared to Asian populations. The debilitating disease is also the sixth leading cause of death in men all across the world. According to the Population Based Cancer Registries in Delhi, the disease is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer among men in the national capital, accounting for about 6.78 per cent of all malignancies. As per the official estimates, the number of people with prostate cancer in India is set get doubled by the year 2020.

An IANS report suggests prostate cancer cases in rural India to see a sharp rise. "Most of the metastatic prostate cancer cases are from rural areas. Therefore, it's a challenge to government and doctors to decrease the risk factors and take prostate cancer risk in the rural areas very seriously," P.N. Dogra, Professor and Head of Urology at AIIMS, said in a statement on Thursday.

It must be noted that cancer is one of the many lifestyle diseases. Experts press for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet and regular physical activity to stave off risks of cancer. Some of the most recent studies link regular nuts consumption with reduced risk of prostate cancer. As per a research published in the British Journal of Cancer, "just 1.5 ounces of nuts per day (about 1/3 cup) can have a positive impact on health."
