100 Rounds Fired At His Car, BJP Leader Now In Hospital In Delhi

The unknown gunmen fired nearly 100 rounds at the car which Brijpal Teotia was travelling in.

Ghaziabad: Brijpal Teotia, a BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh, was attacked by unknown gunmen on Thursday evening who opened fire at his convoy in Ghaziabad, on the outskirts of Delhi. At least 100 rounds were shot using AK-47 rifles.

Mr Teotia, 49, was rushed to a hospital in Noida where his condition is said to be serious. Five others were injured in the attack.

"The injured were initially admitted at a hospital in Ghaziabad from where, Teotia was referred to Fortis Hospital in Noida," said Meerut zone Inspector General Surjeep Pandey.

The unknown gunmen, who were in a Toyota Fortuner SUV, fired at the Scorpio SUV which Mr Teotia was travelling in. The attackers managed to escape from the spot.

"Rifles, AK 47 have been used in the attack... We are trying to arrest the culprits. Weapons used in the attack have been recovered," said Daljeet Chaudhary, Additional Director General of Police Law and Order

Minister of State Mahesh Sharma, who met the injured leader, said, "His life is in danger. He has been taken to operation theatre."

Mr Teotia, who had contested the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election from Muradnagar constituency, was on his way to Ghaziabad when his convoy was attacked, police said.
