As many as 80 suspected cases of Chikungunya have been reported in Gurgaon, prompting the authorities to issue over 270 notices to people in whose house mosquito larva was found.
Addressing a press conference at the Mini Secretariat, Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner T L Satyaprakash said the cases of dengue, chikungunya and malaria were being monitored by district authorities on a daily basis.
"Usually dengue is at its peak in mid of October and if we take action at community level now to control breeding of larva in our houses, we can control it here only, otherwise, it is bound to spread in the aftermath of rains," he said.
Noting that government functionaries cannot reach all the areas of the district, he asked people to take action at community level and not to allow breeding of larva in their houses or nearby for next 10 to 15 days.
"It is the responsibility of every individual to do the 10-minute mozzie wipe out every day. The larva of aides mosquito grow in clean water, usually found in flower pots, open overhead tanks, small quantity rain water accumulated in waste tyres, utensils, broken pots etc," he added.
He said that the district administration is creating a facility for posterity and is developing base map through GIS Mapping. Data of waterlogging and dengue prone areas was being prepared with the help of Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC).
Listing out the government's efforts to check spread of diseases, he said fogging was being done extensively by the Municipal Corporation Gurgaon (MCG). The fogging was also monitored online. MCG has 18 hand operated fogging machines and two big machines.
Tablets of larvecide Tamiphos were put in stagnant waters and Gambusie fish were put into ponds which eat up mosquito larva, Satyaprakash added.
The health department has set up a control room for vector-borne diseases with phone number 0124-2222465 and for getting fogging done one should contact on MCG helpline number 18001801817, he said.
Tests for chikungunya will be conducted at the main Citizen Hospital from today, the deputy commissioner said.
