Their father, an Arab Sheikh, had divorced Razia in 1988. In his deathbed he told the sisters that she lives in Hyderabad.
That was 15 years ago. The sisters say it is only after growing up and getting married that they found the courage to search for their mother.
Ayesha was only two years old and Fathima a baby of three months when their mother left. She is a faint memory even for the elder sister. All they have is a photograph, an old passport and a marriage certificate.
The women have only a photograph of their mother, Razia, who was divorced by their father 27 years ago.
The few slender leads they had have dried up. The Qazi who conducted the marriage ceremony is dead. One of the witnesses was located but he was too old to be able to give any solid information.
"We two girls had not seen mother for 27 years. So we came to see her, to search for her. Hopefully, we will find her,'' said Fathima.
After their own efforts to trace their mom failed, the sisters approached the Hyderabad police for help.
Senior city police officer Satyanarayana said they have some information regarding the brother of Razia and they hope he would lead them to her.
"Razia Begum was married to the girls' father in 1981 and was divorced in 1988, after which she came to Hyderabad. We have put our teams to work on this,'' he said.
Razia, the police say, may have remarried and relocated, but they are determined to reunite the daughters with the mother.
