The huge blast reportedly occurred at a house of local Trinamool Congress leader Jamir Hossain
Birbhum, West Bengal:
Two people were killed in a blast at the house of a Trinamool leader in West Bengal's Birbhum district late last night.
The two victims were brothers of a local leader of the ruling Trinamool party. The blast took place in the leader's house at Amodpur village, about 250 km from Kolkata.
It was a huge blast, bringing down parts of the brick and mortar building. Police say that crude bombs seem to have gone off either accidentally or while being made.
Birbhum Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar said, "Prima facie the damage was caused when a large number of crude bombs exploded. We have found pellets and 'sutli' used to make such bombs. We are checking if there was any other substance."
A huge police forced turned up at the village after news of the blast spread. Villagers gathered there in the hundreds. Many said the blast was so powerful, the whole village was shaken.
Locals claim, besides the two dead, at least four to five people who were making the bombs were injured in the blast.
The two dead, Hafizul and Tarik Hussain, are brothers of Jabir Hussain, Trinamool member of Panchla gram panchayat in Khoirasole police station area. Hafizul died on the spot, Tarik on way to a government hospital at Siuri, Birbhum's headquarter town.
Sources say the Hussain brothers who died were involved with the local coal mafia. They were making bombs to attack a rival group.
