Bhopal:
Two passenger trains - Kamayani Express and Janata Express - derailed in Mandhya Pradesh late on Tuesday night. The derailments happened close to Kudawa railway station, about 20 kilometres from Harda in central Madhya Pradesh.

Rail traffic in the area has been hit, with at least 25 trains from Mumbai being diverted. Trains from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were temporarily stopped. Sources said some of the trains may be diverted via Rajasthan-Kota route.
12 bodies have been recovered so far, says Prem Babu Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Harda Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju:
1) We won't be able to determine the number of casualties at the moment.
2) We'll be able to to determine scope of efforts needed.
3) We have ample numbers in disaster management teams.
4) Para-military forces on standby as per procedure.

At least 50 passengers of Kamayani Express have been pulled out of the river.

Initial reports suggest that the accident has taken place on a bridge that had developed cracks due to the rise in the water level of the river. Heavy rainfall and bad weather also lead the rise in the water level.
Rescue officials have reached the spot and rescue operations have started.

Kamayani Express is a 26 coach train. 5-6 coaches have derailed and have fallen into a river. Rescue teams have been sent. Kamayani Express derailed at around 11:30 pm on Tuesday night.
Another train - Janata Express, coming from the opposite direction also derailed at the same spot. 2-3 bogies have derailed.
The weather is bad and there is heavy rainfall even now. The water level in the river is high, and the area is waterlogged.
The nearby roads are damaged. Even reaching the spot is a challenge.

The rescue train has reached within one kilometer of the accident. Rescue officials will now walk till where the trains have derailed.
Janata Express has also derailed near the same place where the Kamayani Express had derailed earlier. 3 bogies are believed to have derailed.
Another train - the Janata Express has reportedly derailed in Madhya Pradesh.
Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted to say they are gearing up all possible help and will not spare any efforts.
The Kamayani Express was travelling from Mumbai in Maharashtra to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
A special team with doctors and rescue personnel has been dispatched to the spot in another train. There are about 100 people on the relief train.
There are 72 seats in a train's bogey. However, there is no figure on the number of casualties feared.
Reports suggest the five bogies fell into the river when the train was crossing a bridge. The water level of the river was very high due to incessant rain over the last two weeks.
