Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally at Saharanpur had drawn huge crowds, who came not only from Uttar Pradesh, but neighbouring Uttarakhand.
Posters of "Mission 265+", "Abki baar, BJP Sarkar" lined the road to Saharanpur's Kosmoss Green City, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a mega rally to launch the second anniversary celebrations of the NDA government today.
The message was unambiguous. Uttar Pradesh is going to polls next year and the BJP has set its eyes on a very specific target.
"We have set ourselves a target of 265+. We will cross it," BJP vice-president and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Om Mathur told NDTV.
The rally had drawn huge crowds - who came not only from Uttar Pradesh, but neighbouring Uttarakhand, braving the 40 plus temperature and unbearable humidity.
Some had climbed the beams to get a better view of the stage, others kept pushing their way to the front, hoping to catch a glimpse of all the action and dignitaries on the stage.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur today.
To the chant of "Modi, Modi", the Prime Minister declared, "I am an Uttar Pradesh-wala, a parliamentarian from UP".
The BJP leaders said his message is going to a larger audience. "This rally is being telecast across 5,000 locations by our local leaders so it can reach any more people," Mr Mathur added.
For years, the party has been a distant number three in the Uttar Pradesh's number game, with power shifting between the Samajwadi Party and Mayawati's BSP. But in 2014, the state had delivered a resounding mandate for the BJP, giving it 71 of its 80 Parliamentary seats.
"We want to repeat 2014," said BJP state President Keshav Prasad Maurya. "We were ahead in 337 Vidhan sabha constituencies then. The Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party were virtually wiped out if you go by those numbers."
