Srinagar: Protests erupted in several areas of south Kashmir's Pulwama district today after three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces during a search operation.

Train services between Baramullah and Banihal have been suspended for security reasons following protests.

"Based on specific information about the presence of terrorists at Panzgam village in Pulwama district, troops launched a pre-dawn operation and in the ensuing encounter three terrorists, who were holed up in a residential house, were killed," a spokesman of the Army said.

The terrorists killed, identified as Ashfaq Ahmad Dar, Ishfaq Ahmad Baba and Haseeb Ahmad Pahla, were local residents who belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen group.

The Army also recovered arms and ammunition from the site of the encounter.
