Prominent government ministers including Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah Naidu and other parliamentarians followed in Asanas, which PM Modi says are essential for healthy living. The prime minister's pitch at the United Nations last year is the reason why June 21 was declared as the International Day of Yoga.
