Mathura: Nine children residing in Jawahar Bagh, which witnessed violent clashes earlier this week, have been rescued and brought to a children's home in Mathura.

NDTV spoke to three of the rescued children as they recounted the horrors of the night.

"We hid in the trees to flee. Bombs were being thrown around, stones hurled, bullets fired everywhere," said Abhishek.

His siblings - 8 and 12 years of age - along with his mother, are still in jail, he said.

Another child, who was brought to Jawahar Bagh by his aunt, said that the latter moved to the area on Swadhin Bharat Vidhik Satyagrah leader Ram Vriksh Yadav's request.

"She brought me here because there's a Netaji called Ram Vriksh Yadav. She said he'll free Bharat. He will come and give us all a gold coin and that is the only currency that will work in India," he said.

More than 3,000 people of the cult had ambushed nearly a thousand policemen with swords, guns and grenades after police launched a drive to evict them.

Claiming to be political and social revolutionaries, Ram Vriksh Yadav's group said they were fighting for the abolition of elections and cheaper fuel for everyone.

Amid political unrest over the clashes in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has still not visited Mathura.
