Police found several guns and swords in a raid at the doctor's home in Raipur.
Raipur:
A homoeopathic doctor has been arrested in Chhattisgarh capital Raipur after a large stash of weapons was found at his home during raids on the weekend.
During searches at Aniruddha Chatterjee's three-storey house on Saturday, the police found several rifles, revolvers, swords and arrows.
Dr Chatterjee is now being investigated for Maoist links, police said.
"We have recovered guns and other weapons in huge quantity from the doctor's house. We suspect he may have got them online we are investigating. So far we have not been able to find any link of him with Naxals but we are looking at all angles," Vijay Agarwal, a police officer said.
The police raided his home after he was named by another man arrested for carrying a gun without a licence.
The man, Rajesh Paul, told the police he had got the gun from his "friend" Aniruddha Chatterjee.
Sources say the police found a factory-like set-up on the third floor of Dr Chatterjee's house, where the weapons were found.
"We never thought he could be doing something like this. He used to attend to patients at home so we never got suspicious of him as people used to regularly visit him," Chagan Chopra, a neighbour of Dr Chatterjee, said.
Both Rajesh Pal and Dr Chatterjee were produced in court today and have been sent to three days of police remand.
