Around 600 people were detained as BJP workers and supporters protested today in Delhi against the alleged killing of a party worker in Kerala.
The police had cracked down on the protesters, who were holding a demonstration outside the CPM office. Several police teams were rushed to the spot and the entire area was barricaded after CPM workers come out of the building to confront the protesters.
The BJP has been targeting the Left over the alleged attacks on its workers in Kerala. Yesterday, BJP chief Amit Shah had accused the Left Front of "violating" the people's mandate.
"We met President Pranab Mukherjee to discuss the issue of post result violence in Kerala," said senior BJP leader and Union minister Nitin Gadkari. He said the BJP workers in the state have been killed and their houses have been damaged.
Pramod, 38, had sustained head injuries on Thursday at in Kerala's Idavilangu. The CPM and BJP workers had clashed as the former were celebrating their victory in the assembly elections. Pramod, who, had allegedly been hit by a brick, died the next day.
The BJP has said it would not "sit quiet" if the "cycle of violence" continues in Kerala. The party, which made its debut in the state assembly, winning one seat, claimed it has emerged as a powerful voice to the two main fronts in the state led by the CPM and the Congress.
"We won't take law in our hands," said Mr Gadkari, adding that the President has assured them that action will be taken.
