Children were rescued amid heavy gunfire at the police station in Punjab attacked by terrorists on Monday
Gurdaspur:
Two children were rescued from a building in the middle of heavy gunfire just a few metres away at the police station complex that terrorists attacked in Punjab's Gurdaspur on Monday.
A video shows how a boy and a girl were brought down from their first floor home in the police quarters within the complex, barely 10 metres from the building where terrorists spent hours fighting security forces.
The children were apparently not fully aware of the danger they could be in. The police officer is heard telling them: "Don't laugh. Tell us how many you are." The children reply: "Only two of us."
The boy was brought down first with the help of a ladder. A girl believed to be his sister tried to hand him his shirt. "Leave the shirt, boy," the police officer said while helping him down.
Seconds later, when the girl was being brought down, gunshots rang out. The firing continued for a long time.
Seven people were killed as three terrorists dressed in army fatigues opened fire on a bus and then stormed the police station complex where they fought security personnel for 12 hours, till they were killed.
Today, 10 live bombs were found from the police station, which, according to officers, indicated that the terrorists had planned a major operation. The bombs were planted by the terrorists, said the police.
Five live bombs were found yesterday from railway tracks nearby while the terrorists were still inside the police station.
