The gangrape of the young para-medical student in Delhi had triggered widespread protests.
New Delhi:
The four men who are on death row for the gang-rape of a para-medical student in Delhi on December 16, 2012, have been convicted in a separate case.
A lower court in Delhi has delivered the verdict in a case of robbery which took place the same night.
The men -- Akshay Kumar Singh, Mukesh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma -- had robbed a carpenter, 35-year-old Ram Adhar, a couple of hours before they sexually assaulted the 23-year-old.
The modus operandi was the same -- they lured him into the bus. Then they beat him up, robbed him of his cellphone and Rs. 1500 in cash, and then left him on the streets.
Hours later, they lured the 23-year-old medical student and her male friend into the bus.
She was brutally assaulted and tortured with an iron rod on a moving bus by the men. After fighting for life for 13 days, she died at a hospital in Singapore.
Six men - one of them a juvenile -- had initially been convicted in the case. In March 2013, one of the accused, Ram Singh, was found hanging in Tihar jail.
