Ahmedabad:
The son of former police officer DG Vanzara has been arrested in a bribery case. Arjun Vanzara, a local administration official in Vadodara, had been caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000, the local unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau has said.
Officials said Arjun Vanzara, an official in the land records office, had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a farmer, Chintan Patel, for making an entry in his land records.
After negotiations, the farmer had finally agreed to pay Rs 75,000. The farmer, meanwhile, had also approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and complained against the official.
On Tuesday the farmer went to Arjun Vanzara's office and when the bribe was being offered the ACB team caught him red-handed. The officials of the agency also recovered Rs 3 lakh from Arjun Vanzara's SUV.
DG Vanzara, a retired Indian Police Service Officer who has been accused in two fake encounter cases, was released on bail last year after being in jail for eight years. He has said that he had been framed in the cases by politicians with vested interests.
