The arrest and eventual resignation of Delhi's law minister Jitender Singh Tomar, has angered the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) so much that they have levelled allegations of doublespeak against the Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Mr Tomar was arrested on Tuesday for charges of cheating, forgery and conspiracy within a few hours of a First Information Report (FIR) being filed.
Delhi's Health Minister Satyendra Jain told NDTV, "They are doing this to ministers. This is political vindictiveness. " AAP leader Kumar Vishwas added, "The same kind of case is going on for Smriti Irani, Katharia, Nihal Chand. Mr Modi when are you arresting them?"
The taunts come after allegations of discrepancies in Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani's affidavits submitted to election commission over her educational qualifications. Similar allegations have been levelled against Minister of State (MoS) for HRD Ram Shankar Katheria.
"The person who filed the case against me lost the elections and that's why he levelled these false cases. But the court has quashed it now," said Mr Katheria.
Another central minister, Nihal Chand Meghwal, is accused of rape and blackmail by a woman in his home state of Rajasthan. The matter is in court.
The BJP counted the charges by saying, "This is not a political fight."
"Whenever someone is attacked they use this as an excuse to put the blame on someone else. This political slugfest won't help achieve anything," said BJP spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao.
Political vendetta or follow up of an investigation? Delhi Law minister Jitender Singh Tomar's arrest has turned out to be the latest flashpoint in a seemingly endless battle between the BJP-led central government and the AAP government in Delhi.
