Firing Reported Near International Border at Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua
Srinagar: Alert troopers of the Border Security Force on Monday foiled a suspected infiltration attempt by armed intruders across the international border in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, police said.

"The BSF troopers noticed suspicious movement near the Karol Mathura outpost on the international border in Hiranagar sector in the afternoon," said a senior police officer.

"As the troopers realised it was a group of militants who were trying to sneak into the Indian side, they fired at the intruders, who also retaliated with automatic gunfire, but were finally forced to withdraw back into the Pakistani side," he added.

The police officer, however, refused to confirm reports about an infiltrator being killed in the firing.

"That cannot be confirmed unless the body of the intruder is recovered," he said.
