Flights to Kashmir valley despite Srinagar airport closure

Srinagar: The government has asked airlines to ensure that flights operate to and from Srinagar while the city's airport is closed for renovation next month.

Civil Aviation Secretary Madhavan Nambiar has directed all airlines to operate their Srinagar flights to an alternate airport at Avantipur, while the Srinagar airport shuts down for maintenance work for 12 days starting September 3.

Sources say the PM wanted the aviation ministry to ensure uninterrupted connectivity to the Valley.

Airlines have agreed to open bookings immediately.
