New Delhi:
A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and violated with sticks by neighbours in Badaun, a part of Uttar Pradesh that has been in the spotlight since two cousins were found hanging from a tree last year.
Two of the alleged rapists, both minors, have been arrested. A third is missing.
A medical test has revealed that a match box, cloth, plastic and an inch-long piece of wood were inserted in her body.
The girl, who was staying with her aunt, was allegedly assaulted last Tuesday.
"That morning I went to a shop to buy biscuits and sweets, when a boy who lives next door told me that someone was waiting for me around the corner," the girl said.
When she went with him, the boy was joined by two others; they gagged and tied her up and took her to a field on a bike, she said.
She said the boys forced her to drink something that left her dizzy. One of them slapped her and beat her up. They then allegedly raped her and around noon, dumped her outside her house. She said they threatened to kill her if she went to the police.
Three days later, she confided in her cousin, who had noticed that she appeared to be in pain and was not eating. She then filed a complaint with the police.
Senior police officer RKS Rathore said a case had been registered and strict action would be taken.
Last year in Badaun, two teen cousins were found hanging from a tree near their village. The police first said they were raped and hanged, which sparked global outrage.
But later, the Central Bureau of Investigation, which took over the case, said the girls were not gang-raped and murdered but had committed suicide.
