DRDO headquarters in New Delhi
Nashik:
A sealed box bearing the name and logo of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was found abandoned at a farm in Kikwari Khurd village of Nashik district, police said today.
However, police suspect that it can be an act of mischief.
The box, with DRDO logo and a warning 'highly confidential', was spotted yesterday by Nandubhau Kakulte, a farmer, at his field in Kikwari Khurd around 70 km from Nashik.
According to police, the box carries instructions that it should be opened by DRDO scientists only and be kept away from electronic items.
"After the farmer found the box, he approached police. They informed the officials concerned, following which a DRDO team came and inspected the box today," Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Malegaon rural) Ashok Nakhate said.
"Investigation into the matter is on and only officials of the department concerned can tell properly about what is inside the box. We are questioning four to five people in this regard. However, we suspect that it is an act of mischief," he said.
DRDO works in various areas of military technology, including aeronautics, armaments, combat vehicles, electronics, instrumentation engineering systems, missiles, materials, naval systems, advanced computing, simulation and life sciences.
