Near every designated exam centre, traffic policemen have been deployed to ensure there are no traffic jams.
Friend on the road. That is what the Hyderabad Traffic police are attempting to be for students going through one of the most stressful times of their life.
Board exams are in progress and traffic jams, delays and road rage could add to already frayed nerves. So the Hyderabad traffic police have decided to play the friendly neighbourhood policeman.
Near every designated exam centre, traffic policemen have been deployed to ensure there are no traffic jams. What's more there is even a good wish placard being displayed by a man in uniform.
"This came as a pleasant surprise to me,'' said Innet D'Souza, who had come to write his English exam at St Mary's College in Secunderabad. "I was quite nervous and best wishes from an unknown person are also welcome,'' he said.
Inspector Adimurthy said this was part of an initiative to get friendly with the younger generation. "Policing cannot happen without public support and it is important that they think well of us, that we are here to help them,'' he said.
Not just students, parents too are grateful that there are no traffic jams and adequate parking space has been created to make flow of traffic smooth.
The Telangana government has also proposed that they will try to ensure no power cuts during exam season. "At least between 6 pm and 10 pm, we want to give power supply, so children can study,'' said State Energy Minister G Jagadeeshwar Reddy, inside the assembly.
There is also a proposal to give solar lamps free of cost to the students. After subsidies, each lamp would cost Rs. 120, an amount which will be paid by the state government, said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The plan is to order four lakh lamps for tenth standard students as well. But with state board exams set to begin on the 23rd, the administration appears to have a tight deadline to chase.
