On December 7, 2015 Vigyan Bharati had facilitated the creation of a new Guinness Book of World Record for India.
Mysuru:
Vigyan Bharati possibly the single largest science network of India and an organisation part of the Rashtriya Swamsewak Sangh or RSS is annoyed with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Office.
The PMO, it says, played a role in the body not being felicitated with a special award by the hands of PM Modi at the inaugural function of the on-going Indian Science Congress that PM Modi inaugurated today in Mysuru.
On December 7, 2015 Vigyan Bharati had facilitated the creation of a new Guinness Book of World Record for India, when 2,000 students conducted the world's largest practical science lesson at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
The Guinness Book of World Records subsequently recognised this feat. Mr Jayakumar, the head of Vigyan Bharati, expressed his displeasure towards the PMO in an interview to NDTV.
"This is very sad for the scientific fraternity. It is not apt for the government. We expect the PM will call students and teachers in Delhi to felicitate them in a fitting moment," he said.
The Ministry of Science and Technology that supported this mega exercise wanted to outdo the previous record when in Ireland earlier this year, 1339 students had set the new global benchmark.
It was later officially announced that India had indeed ousted the venerated Royal Society of Chemistry the holder of the previous record.
Science minister Dr Harsh Vardhan felt this mass experiment will catalyse students to take up a career in science.
For having done this accomplishing the exercise on a voluntary basis, Vigyan Bharati expected a pat on the back from the Prime Minister Modi at the largest gathering of scientists at Mysuru. But that it did not happen has not gone down well with the RSS-led body.
