Delhi assembly saw disruptions by BJP legislators who demanded an explanation on former Law Minister Jitender Tomar
New Delhi:
Facing incessant protests from the slim three-member BJP contingent in the Delhi assembly today, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not miss the chance to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Lalit Modi controversy.
On the first day of the Budget session, the Delhi assembly saw many disruptions as the opposition BJP taunted the government on former law minister Jitender Singh Tomar, currently in jail for allegedly faking his degrees.
"We demand an explanation. How was he a minister for so long?," shouted BJP legislator OP Sharma, who charged out of his seat and walked up to Mr Kejriwal.
The Chief Minister did respond to his demand, but hit right back with a reference to the Lalit Modi controversy that has engulfed the BJP-led government at the Centre.
"Mujhe dhoke mein rakha gaya (I was kept in the dark), but now I have taken strict action against my MLA...Mr Modiji (PM Modi) should also take action against Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje," Mr Kejriwal said, referring to the senior BJP leaders facing resignation calls because of their support to the controversial former IPL boss.
As OP Sharma kept shouting at Mr Kejriwal, the marshals caught hold of him and dragged him out of the assembly. Mr Sharma returned after a few minutes, but was marshaled out again.
One lawmaker down, the BJP's remaining two members decided to sit at the centre of the house and continue their protest. The men kept sitting on the floor as two bills were passed.
AAP enjoys a brute majority in the house, having won 67 of 70 seats in the February assembly polls.
