In Rajasthan, Rahul Gandhi Attacks 'Suit, Boot and Loot Sarkar'

Jaipur: Deriding what he called a "Suit, Boot and Loot Sarkar," Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government while touring Rajasthan, where the ruling BJP is caught in the Lalit Modi controversy.

The Congress Vice President took on PM Modi and his BJP over allegations that two leaders, including state Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, had helped controversial cricket tycoon Lalit Modi. He also raised the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh and controversies in other BJP-ruled states like Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

"The feedback is that is a suit boot and loot Sarkar," Mr Gandhi said, adding, "The Prime Minister said he won't allow corruption (na khaunga, na khane dunga). I am asking him why he won't speak on these issues."

The Congress has said that Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj as well as Vasundhara Raje must resign for helping Lalit Modi with his travel papers in UK.

In Rajasthan, Mr Gandhi held a 'public hearing' at a village, urging farmers to share their grievances. As he took out an 8 km-long padyatra or foot march, he declared that his party would not allow the NDA government to acquire "even an inch of land."

Mr Gandhi has earlier visited Punjab, Maharashtra and Telangana as part of his farmer outreach. The Congress has vowed to block the government's land bill in the monsoon session of Parliament which starts on July 21.

In the last session, Rahul Gandhi had used the term "suit-boot ki sarkar" and alleged that the government had neglected farmers and was only working for crony capitalists.
