A national level Kabaddi player, Dolly Singh was beaten up allegedly after she complained against harassers
Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh:
A national level Kabaddi player is severely wounded after being attacked allegedly after she complained against two men for harassing her.
Sneha Singh, popularly known as Dolly, who is in the national team and trains in Delhi, was beaten up in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on June 15.
Police has now filed a First Information Report (FIR) with stringent sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused, "After receiving the medical reports, complaint have been lodged against the culprits under the IPC section 323, 504, 506, 452 and 325," SSP Kanpur Shalabh Mathur said.
The 18 year old says two men in her village who had sexually harassed her last month are behind the attack. They targeted her because she complained, says Sneha. She said, "Last month, when I was at home in our locality Ujala Thakur and Rishi Gandhi had teased me. I resisted them and then I went back to my work. I am taking coaching at Orai. When I returned, on 15th evening they came to know I was at home. 10 to 12 men came at around 6:30 pm and thrashed me".
Sneha was allegedly beaten up by a dozen men who ransacked her family's home and shop last week. The assault resulted in a cracked nose besides other injuries.
Sneha's father, Ashutosh Singh claims that when his daughter accompanied by her mother went to the local police station after the incident, officials at the local police station refused to file a First Information Report (FIR). They only lodged a complaint only after the duo insisted.
The attackers have been missing since that incident, the police has now launched a search, "Under the supervision of SP, our force has been divided into two teams to search for the culprits," said Mr Mathur.
Dolly is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Bundelkhand University.
