The Aam Aadmi Party has become the Kejriwal party, alleged Mayank Gandhi, a senior leader of AAP today, also drawing comparisons between his party chief Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mayank Gandhi, a member of AAPs National Executive, is the most prominent party leader from Maharashtra and till this morning the state unit of AAP was made up of his supporters.
That unit now stands disbanded at the orders of Mr Kejriwal, who is also Delhi chief minister. Mr Gandhi's current relationship with the Aam AAdmi Party is - complicated.
"I had told them that we don't appreciate that the Aam Aadmi Party has become 'Kejriwal's Party...Perhaps that's why they are still angry," Mr Gandhi, a member of AAPs National Executive, told NDTV.
His disenchantment was reflected most in his comparison of his boss with PM Modi, AAP's chief target for political attacks. Mr Gandhi said, "Personification of just one individual is not right. Even PM Modi doesn't do that but Mr Kejriwal does."
The decision of AAP's central leadership to dissolve its Mumbai and Maharashtra units this morning was very sudden. "Sycophancy has won," Mayank Gandhi tweeted, adding a sarcastic "Jai Ho."
Mr Gandhi had earned the ire of AAP's top leadership earlier this year when he had written a controversial blog against his party for sacking key leaders Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav.
He said the going had been tough since, but he was not looking at joining any other party. "This is my party...May be I am not cut for this kind of petty, competitive politics. I came for a different reason. They can throw me out. It's their choice," he said.
AAP says the move to dissolve its state body is part of a process to restructure and strengthen the unit. It has promised a new team soon.
The party, which stormed to power in Delhi in February this year, has seen several rounds of rebellion and expulsions since, the last in its Punjab unit.
