Minorities Won't Be Targeted In Assam: Sarbananda Sonowal To NDTV

Sarbananda Sonowal of the Bharatiya Janata Party is the Chief Minister designate in Assam.

Guwahati: Hours before taking oath as the chief minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal of the BJP talks to NDTV about his journey and plans for the state. Here are the highlights of what he said:
 
  • I will assure that both Hindus and Muslims will get full protection.
  • Whether you are Hindu or muslim, you will get full protection. You will be promoted politically as well as encourage socio-economically 
  • Stopping illegal immigration, sealing the border and updating the Nation register of citizenship are my priorities.
  • Illegal immigration will be dealt at the highest level.
  • On joining BJP: Assam's issues are national not state issues.
  • Bonafide Indian citizens have nothing to fear.
  • On PM attending the swearing-in ceremony- It is a great honour for Assam and personally for me too, it shows that PM Modi loves Assam from his heart.
  • Wherever I have reached today is only because of the love and blessings of the people of Assam
