Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Amit Shah hosted lunch for media persons as Diwali Milan celebrations.
New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday hosted a lunch for journalists at the party headquarters in Delhi as 'Diwali Milan' celebrations.
Union ministers Arun Jaitley, M Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani and senior BJP leaders were among those who attended the function.
The Prime Minister said there were many interesting stories if one were to look at the socio-economic dimensions of these festivals. The Kumbh Mela draws the equivalent of a small European nation's population, he said.
PM Modi said he wanted to host the 'Diwali Milan' earlier but because of his busy schedule he could not do so.
In a repeat of last year, journalists jostled with each other to take selfies with PM Modi, drawing criticism on Twitter.
In 2014, PM Modi organised a similar interaction with the media fraternity.
BJP chief Mr Shah said the party got late in celebrating 'Diwali Milan' but he was glad that the tradition continued.
