'This is a Government for the Poor,' PM Modi Tells BJP Lawmakers: Highlights

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a workshop for BJP lawmakers on the various pro-poor programmes of the government.

Here are the highlights of what he has said:

• We always need to remember the faith that has been placed in us. We have been given a majority by the people.
• Strong opposition in Parliament is beneficial.
• We have been assured uranium supply for five years from Canada.
• These are treaties which are extremely beneficial.
• In the coming days, these treaties will have a massive impact on the deevlopment.
• In the atomic energy map we have created a space for ourselves.
• In the nuclear energy sector, we have been dependent.
• When Sushmaji (Swaraj) speaks in the Parliament, you will get more details.
• Do not worry about whether media shows your face. Focus on connecting with the farmers.
• In Yemen, there was bombardment for 24 hours. They were ready to kill. And everyday, for two hours, we got the bombing stopped and we evacuated Indians.
• Who were these people in Yemen? They were all labourers and nurses.
• A minister of the government went there, and I salute General VK Singh for his efforts.
• You might have seen on social media, if someone tweets Sushmaji, she replies even if it is at 1 am.
• Could you have imagined or ever seen the Ministry of External Affairs working like that?
• You might have noticed during the Congress regime, that Railways always focused on the sectors of the rich.

• I seek a house for the poor, electricity, toilets, education for kids. Are the poor not entitled to these?

• We want to increase the purchasing power in the villages. But the money spent should not be unproductive.

• The purchasing power of the villages will increase and it will boost the economy.
• We have announced that farmers with over 33 per cent crop loss will be eligible for compensation.
• On television, they show you colour images side-by-side with black and white images. That's because most have forgotten what black and white looks like. That is what you also need to do - remind the people how things were and then tell them what you have done.
• We have deposited 14,000 crore rupees in the banks, and savings are now becoming a habit.
• On the occasion of Deen Dayal Upadhyay's birth centenary, make people trust you, that are working for the poor.
• Leakage in schemes is reducing.
• If one rupee comes from Delhi, only 15 paise reaches the beneficiary.
• Some people have decided that they will say nothing positive about the government. Let us not focus on them. It is their livelihood.
• Please focus on those who want to hear and believe in the positive.
• In the past five years, inflation on the Wholesale Price Index was highest in March 2014. In January 2015, it was -0.39 per cent.
• Consumer Price Index inflation in November 2013 was 11.24 per cent. In March 2015, it was was 5.17 per cent.
• Food inflation in November 2013 was 14.7 per cent. In January 2015, it was 6.1 per cent.
