New Delhi:
Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of President Pranab Mukherjee, was allegedly harassed by a man, who posted sexually explicit messages on her Facebook page.
She lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime unit of Delhi Police. Police said the "lewd" messages were sent to the complainant through Facebook Messenger. The profile of the sender mentions him as a resident of Nauhati in Hooghly, West Bengal.
Ms Mukherjee, a member of the Congress, posted the screenshots of his Facebook profile and of the messages he sent her and wrote, "The person is completely unknown to me and he sent me dirty sexual messages last night," identifying the man as Partha Mandal.
"My first reaction was to ignore and block him. But then I thought silence would encourage him to find other victims. Just blocking and reporting is not enough," the 50-year-old wrote.
"We are in the process of registering a case and launching investigation to catch the culprit," said Anyesh Roy, DCP (Cyber Crime).
"I strongly feel such people should be publicly exposed and humiliated," she wrote in the status tagging him and requested people to share the post so that such incidents are not taken lightly.
The Congress leader, who fought the 2015 assembly elections in Delhi, said she made her profile public after joining politics in order to get suggestions and complaints from people.
"I want to shame this man in front of his family and friends. Apart from the legal action that would be taken against him, I will be going to the cyber cell of Delhi Police," she told NDTV, adding that she would be making the complaint as any other girl and not as the President's daughter.
