Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses rally at Hussainiwala village in Ferozepur.
Hussainiwala, Ferozepur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a tribute to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru at the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala village in Punjab's Ferozepur, after which he addressed a rally.
Here are the highlights of what he said:
- Today is a very inspiring day for me, that I have got the opportunity to salute martyrs.
- I salute the land of Punjab, which has sacrificed such a lot for the country.
- Punjab is a land that has sacrificed so many of its children for the Nation, be it in the freedom struggle or the Army.
- Bhagat Singh continues to inspire the youth of this country.
- Bhagat Singh. This name has the strength to inspire so many people to live and die for the Nation.
- It is both our dream and our duty to take India to new heights, and that will be a true tribute to these martyrs.
- Today is the birth anniversary of Ram Manohar Lohia, laid great empahsis on cleanliness.
- In 2019, when we mark Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, let us fulfill the dream of a Swachh Bharat.
- By 2022, it should be our dream that there is no Indian left without a home. Every Indian must get a home.
- Punjab saved the country from starvation, but today there is a lack of water in the state. Our goal should be, 'Per Drop More Crop'.
- It is important to save every drop of water. That is when the water problems will be solved.
- We want to give soil health cards to farmers.
- Sardar Bhagat Singh Post Graduate Institute for farmers to be set up.
- Whatever way we can help Punjab, you will not find the Centre lagging behind on that front.
- We believe in strengthening the states.
- States will have 62 per cent of the wealth, and only 38 per cent will now remain with the Centre. The states will develop, and so will India.
- These days there is an effort to mislead the farmers of India. I spoke about this in my radio programme 'Mann ki Baat'.
- If the country has to develop, the farmer has to develop. At the same time, we need to keep in mind the son of the farmer.
- If there is no development, the sons of farmers will have to focus on winning their daily bread.
- I ask the sons of farmers, do you want to live in the slums of Mumbai or Delhi?
- If there is no development then what will happen to the children of the farmers.
- We want the farmers to benefit but also that villages should develop.
- Corruption has destroyed our country.
- Our previous government would get angry if we raised the issue of corruption.
- Just in the auction of coal blocks, lakh of crores were lost to corruption.
- The allocations were cancelled after we came to power. They committed the sin, but we are paying the price.
- People were not ready to believe the amount that was quoted for coal scam.
- They kept pushing for their 'zero theory' (zero loss to the Exchequer).
- We decided to publicly auction the mines.
- Only 18 mines have been auctioned, and you will be pleased to know that the honest government you have installed in Delhi has ensured 2 lakh crore rupees from the sale.
- The corruption of the previous government probably disturbs Bhagat Singh's soul.
- I am happy to inform you that our government has bought for only 80 rupees, the same LED bulbs that had been purchased by the previous government for 300 rupees.
- I have been closely associated with Punjab. I have spent many years working here, and have learnt much in my political lilfe from Parkash Singh Badal.
