Many students who appeared for the CBSE Class 12 Maths paper on Monday have complained the paper was "unusually tough and lengthy." Angry students and parents say this will impact the future of children and have called for a review
A maths teacher at a reputed Patna school, who did not want to be named, said "We haven't complained to the CBSE yet officially. That's for the principal to decide. But, many of my students, the brightest ones included, called me yesterday and were (feeling) very dejected."
In Hyderabad, Delhi Public School student Pranav Agarwal said the paper wasn't out of syllabus but added, "
In every paper there is a mix of easy and difficult questions. In this year's CBSE samples papers too, this pattern was followed.
But in the actual paper, even the section that is supposed to have easy 10 questions of one mark took us over 30 minutes (to finish). In the end, I could not complete my paper."
After his class 12, Patna student Harsh Vardhan Ojha wants to study in Delhi or a top college elsewhere. But with cut-off percentages touching the high-90s mark for admission to top universities, the maths paper has made him less confident of managing the numbers. "If I was expecting above 80 marks before the paper, now I am down to a situation where I may get just about 40. It is very disappointing," he said.
The anger against this paper is not restricted to Bihar alone. On an online forum for instance, people are talking about the paper from across the country. The CBSE, which has about 20,000 affiliated schools across India, is yet to react on the issue. The regional office here refused comment.
In 2015, the board had to review its maths paper after similar complaints, and had also considered giving a relaxation in the marking for the paper.
