New Delhi:
Tremors were felt in North India today after an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, around 12:44 am.
The earthquake, which hit at a depth of 203.5 kilometres, had its epicentre some 280 kilometres northeast of Afghanistan's capital Kabul, the US Geological Survey said.
Tremors were also felt in Peshawar, Lahore and Islamabad in Pakistan and Kabul in Afghanistan.
Though there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties in Afghanistan, at least 30 people were injured in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar.
In India, tremors were reported from Chandigarh, Srinagar, Jaipur, Delhi and the National Capital Region.
The Delhi Police tweeted to say there have not been any calls reporting any damage or casualty as yet.
An AFP journalist reported that buildings swayed in the Pakistani capital due to the earthquake.
