Vice President Hamid Ansari on Thursday stressed on "removing barricades of global villages".
Rajgir, Nalanda:
Expressing concern over the growing environmental issues worldwide, Vice President Hamid Ansari on Thursday stressed on "removing barricades of global villages" and called upon the countries to work together for a "more effective" safeguard of the environment.
"There is a need to remove barricades of global villages and every country has to work to safeguard the environment," he said while interacting with the students of Nalanda International University in Bihar's Nalanda district.
"Talks on the need to maintain environmental balance take place but they break into incoherent pieces in different countries," Mr Ansari said while pointing out the lacunae in the efforts to tackle environmental problems.
"The world community is working on (tackling) global warming but it is not properly implemented at the local level. Every country and state has a different perspective on environmental issues," the Vice President said.
Bihar Governor Ramnath Kovind, state Education Minister Ashok Choudhary and Nalanda University Vice-Chancellor Gopa Sabarwal were present on the occasion.
Mr Ansari also emphasised on improving the functioning of the Panchayati Raj institutions.
Regarding the lack of industrial establishments in Bihar, he said if big industries were not coming to the state, small-scale industries should be promoted.
"The small-scale units would help absorb the technical manpower and also check migration of the natives of Bihar to other states such as Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal," he said.
