Ajay Devgn said that PM Modi's visit to Islamabad was not "politically wrong".
New Delhi:
Actor Ajay Devgn had strong words when asked about director Anurag Kashyap's tweets which questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lahore and demanded an apology. The actor said, "We should be responsible about what we were saying," adding, "These are people who spoil things".
"You can't retaliate in such a way that you have no idea what you are saying, so be responsible enough on what you are saying and what you mean," he said. "When you make these statements it goes anti, so keep quiet and let it sort things."
On October 16, Mr Kashyap in a series of tweets, had expressed solidarity with film-maker Karan Johar, whose film "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" was under fire for featuring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. A group of theatre-owners across four states had refused to screen it.
Mr Kashyap, who was among a section in Bollywood that is against the ban on Pakistani artistes suggested by some political parties and a producers' association, had pointed out that the film was shot at the same time that PM Modi was on a surprise visit to his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.
The director has since defended his tweets, saying "when the governing party's designated members don't respond in hours of crisis because they are second guessing the mood of the PM then I would rather talk straight to the PM himself."
Mr Devgn argued that PM Modi's visit to Islamabad at the time was not "politically wrong". "He went to sort things. Didn't happen. The scenario is different then and now," he added.
Mr Johar, whose film is slated for a Diwali release, was controversially asked by politician Raj Thackeray to pay Rs. 5 crore to the military welfare fund as "penance" for working with Pakistani actors. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has said funds donated under coercion will not be accepted by the military.
