Arvind Kejriwal, who was smiling away, later said, "I'm very happy with the way Mr Supriyo said we will be working together."
New Delhi:
The title song for Hum Tum - that's what BJP union minister Babul Supriyo has sung for political adversary and Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The occasion was the release of a new app for the New Delhi Municipal Council - NDMC 311 - through which residents can pay their bills and register complaints about civic amenities.
Mr Supriyo, who was present for the event, held at Central Park, the heart of Delhi on Saturday, said, "I think this is the song that reflects what's happening in politics now."
Then inviting Mr Kejriwal onto the stage, the singer-turned-politician launched into the superhit "
Lamhon ki guzarish" and stepped up to Mr Kejriwal to give him a hug.
The gesture by the two leaders drew loud cheers from the audience.
Mr Kejriwal, who was smiling away, later said, "I'm very happy with the way Mr Supriyo said we will be working together."
Since coming to power in Delhi last year in February, Mr Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party has been at loggerheads with the BJP-led central government over various issues. Yesterday, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi owes an explanation to the people on how business tycoon Vijay Mallya, wanted for money laundering, could leave the country
It is important to have political debate, but at the same time, there was a need to work "harmoniously" to ensure welfare of people who have "voted us to power," Mr Supriyo said at the event.
"We (the Centre and Delhi government) should walk together to make the condition of Delhi better and for this, the Central government and Delhi government should work together," Mr Kejriwal added.
