Almost a week after Shaktiman, the police horse, lost its leg after sustaining a horrific injury during a BJP protest, help has been pouring in for the injured animal from within the country and abroad.
Working on a war-footing in his workshop in Dehradun is Dr. VK Nautiyal, an orthotic and prosthetic practitioner. His team has made a temporary static socket.
The static socket will ensure that the horse stands on its legs with comfort and ease.
"In an effort to ease the ailing animal's amputated limb and give it proper support, a silicon fitting is added to the socket which acts as a cushion," Dr Nautiyal said.

The horse stood on a prosthetic limb after an emergency amputation three days later, which doctors said was essential to save his life.
Post amputation, Shaktiman seems to be on the road to recovery and there has been a marked change, said Kishan Singh Rawat, the horse's caretaker.
An outpouring of support and sympathy had come for Shaktiman since footage of the horse dragging a mangled and bloodied hind leg at the protest at Uttarakhand's Dehradun.
