New Delhi:
When University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a Yoga Day circular to all universities on Monday, it looked quite similar to the one they had issued on Good Governance Day, except for the 'strict action' threat.
Online essay competitions and, of course, participating in a yoga demonstration that will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at central Delhi's Rajpath on June 21, International Yoga Day.
"Unfortunately summer break is on but the government required us to send around 13 names of students of foreign nationalities who will participate in a government organised program on that day, we have done that," said Malay Neerav, Joint Dean of student welfare at Delhi University.
With most students and faculty members having left for the summer, colleges like Hindu college said they had not even received directions about what they should do for Yoga day.
Dr Anju Srivastava, principal, Hindu college said, "We have been organising yoga camps as such but no information has been communicated to us yet by the university, specific to that day but we are expecting to receive in the next few days."
Delhi schools are also in the middle of their summer holidays, most haven't made any extra arrangements unless there is a last minute diktat.
"We are in the middle of a vacation and that becomes a limitation but we will do whatever we can," said Principal of Modern School, Vasant Vihar, Meenakshi Sahni.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution last year to observe International Yoga Day on June 21 every year. But the sheen of Yoga Day seems to have gone off amongst students due to its timing.
