Jammu:
Jammu and Kashmir police are installing CCTV cameras at key locations in the two capitals and major towns of the state to keep a close eye on traffic rule violators.
During a Traffic Wing review meeting, chaired by Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda, it was noted that 33 CCTV cameras are being installed at important places in Jammu while in Srinagar 13 cameras are being installed.
More CCTV cameras will be put in place in the two cities, the officials informed the meeting.
In Jammu, CCTV cameras are being installed at Satwari Chowk, Green Belt, Gandhinagar, Hotel Asia Crossing, Bikram Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Jewal Chowk, K C Chowk, Amphalla Chowk, Parade Chowkh and High Court Crossing Janipur.
While in Srinagar, camera will be installed at intersections at Ram Munshi Bagh, TRC, Dalgate, MA Bridge Chowk, Golf, Ex-CM residence, Jehangir Chowkh, Exhibition, Fire Service and Hyderpora.
Monitoring of these CCTVs would be done by separate Control Rooms to be established in Traffic Control Units of Jammu and Srinagar.
Addressing the meeting, Khoda asked the traffic officers to use latest technology for regulating traffic and minimizing jams.
He said a website dedicated to traffic issues would be launched soon and appealed to people, especially youngsters, to come forward with suggestions and feedback.
The DGP asked the officers to launch a massive awareness campaign across the state to make people aware of traffic laws and regulations.
Regular screening of vehicles should be done to check auto-thefts and traffic violations, he said.
The meeting also decided to identify more parking slots and setting up of electronic traffic signals system for automatic regulation of traffic.
It was also proposed to set up two training schools and traffic police stations in the State to sensitize officers and jawans of the Traffic Wing for effective traffic management.
Private firm employee robbed of Rs 6.82 lakh in Mumbai
The 24-year-old employee of a private firm was robbed of Rs 6.82 lakh allegedly by four robbers near Matunga railway station in central Mumbai, police said today.
According to police, Atul Bandiwadekar was returning to his office on a bike after collecting the cash of Rs 6.82 lakh from different civic body electricity payment centres in Mahim and Dadar areas when the robbers struck and looted him.
The victim was accompanied by his associate on his bike but the accused threatened the duo with a sharp weapon and escaped with the cash from Matunga road railway station, said S R Unavane, Sr Inspector at Shivaji Park Police Station.
The accused drove a Maruti esteem car and hit the bike last night following which the victims fell down, he said adding "one of the four robbers then threatened the victims with a sharp object and snatched the bag containing the cash."
Subsequently they sped off in the car which was later spotted in Dadar area, he added.
Bandiwadekar's job was to collect cash accumulated at the civic body's electricity bill payment centres after consumers pay their bill amount. Then he takes the cash to the office of his firm, which deposits the cash into the civic body's account, police said.
The sketches of the accused were being drawn based on the description given by the victim, police said. Further probe is on.
