Inspector General TJ Jose, 58, has been barred from appearing for the remaining law exams this term

A top police officer of Kerala was today allegedly caught cheating during a law examination and was asked to leave the hall by the invigilator. Inspector General, Thrissur range, T J Jose, has denied that he cheated.
Mr Jose, 58, has been barred from appearing for the remaining law exams this term, said Mahatma Gandhi (MG) University Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian.
"The candidate was caught cheating in a Constitutional Law paper. The college authorities forwarded the roll number to the MG University. On verifying it was found the candidate is TJ Jose. He has been barred from taking the remaining exams for this term," said Mr Sebastian.
After an embarrassing full day of saturation coverage by local TV channels, Kerala's Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala confirmed that Mr Jose has been asked to proceed on leave, while the allegation against him is investigated by an officer of Additional Director General of Police rank.
Police sources said that no action is likely to be taken against Mr Jose till a preliminary report is in.
The Indian Police Service or IPS officer, was allegedly trying to copy answers from pages torn out of a book during a Constitutional Law paper for the MG University LLM or Master of Law examination at St Paul's College, Kalamasseri. He had allegedly hidden the pages in his handkerchief.
The invigilator did not reportedly know that the person he asked to leave the examination hall was a senior IPS officer. The university learnt that later when the registration number was checked.
A university preliminary report is expected by Turesday afternoon. But any further action by the university will be decided only after syndicate sub-committee submits its report.
